SOUZA in the 1940's
The exhibition focuses on the formative years of Francis Newton Souza. Some of the artist's earliest works from his time as a student in Goa and Bombay will be exhibited, as well as pieces from around the time of the inception of the Progressive Artists' Group in 1947, the same year as India's Independence.
Souza in the 40's documents the beginnings of the artist's career as well as those of the Modernist movement in India. The artist's move to London in 1949 is the end point of the show, which will feature only works produced in India.
Three exhibitions will be held concurrently in London, New Delhi and Goa from December 2018 to January 2019. The exhibition will be accompanied a fully illustrated catalogue.
