Abu Dhabi Art: New paintings by Olivia Fraser & Senaka Senanayake

18 - 23 November 2019

Grosvenor Gallery is delighted to announce our participation at Abu Dhabi Art 2019. It will be our first time showing at the fair, where we are part of the section 'New Horizons: India', curated by Ashwin Thadani. We will be exhibiting new paintings by Olivia Fraser and Senaka Senanayake. The fair takes place from the 18th - 23rd November 2019.

We will be located at stand S13.

Olivia Fraser (b1965) moved to India in 1989 and studied traditional Indian miniature painting techniques under Jaipuri and Delhi masters. She uses this in her work, incorporating gem-like stone colours, unique miniature brush work, and elaborate decorative and burnished surfaces.  Her latest body of work is deeply rooted in her fascination with and practice of yoga and the ways in which yogic meditation involves visualizations of the garden, particularly the thousand-petaled lotus, which serves as a visual aid in reaching enlightenment.  Her works are in public and private collections around the world. Olivia’s first book titled ‘A Journey Within’ (published by Harper Collins) was launched in October 2019.

Senaka Senanayake (b1951) achieved early fame as a child prodigy, whose work was first exhibited in Colombo in the late 1950s. Since his first international one man show in New York at the age of ten he has exhibited throughout Europe, the USA and Asia, establishing himself as one of the region's most important living artists.

His recent paintings are inspired by the plight of the Sri Lankan rainforests, many of which have been subject to intense deforestation to make way for tea-plantations.  Senaka comments; "My main focus is on the endangered flora and fauna in our rainforests.  In 2005 I visited a rainforest in Sri Lanka, which had become my muse for many of my shows. I could have shown the negative aspects of destruction, such as people and animals dying, but I try to do happy, positive paintings."
