Since the Mesolithic era handprints have been made on cliff walls and in caves like signatures suggesting emerging consciousness.
In Hindu/Buddhist tradition hand positions (mudras) comprise a complete symbolism in rites of devotion. Hands speak to us with the eloquence of silence.
Using my own hand I was wanting to explore the life affirming spiritual associations using the lotus within. I have used my hands and my feet in many paintings as parts of the body that have both devotional, practical and iconic resonance. Along with eyes they can be used as tools along spiritual paths for transformation. In this instance, the changing lotus chakras within the hand provide a roadmap to focus on within this state of consciousness -a path of grace.
