Galerie du Haut Pavé was established in Paris in 1953 by Dominican priest Gilles Vallée as a space to promote the work of contemporary artists aged 40 and under. A non-profit association, the gallery’s mission is to promote young artists by organizing their first exhibition in Paris. Several Indian artists exhibited there, including Jogen Chowdhury, Rajendra Dhawan, Akkitham
Narayanan and Satish Panchal.
Chowdhury lived in Paris in the late 1960s, graduating from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1967, the same year as his exhibition at Haut Pavé.
